On the 2026 BMW 228i Gran Coupe above, $3,000 due at signing covers $883 of drive-off fees ($443 of them subject to use tax, $440 not), $152 of use tax due up front and the $442 first payment; the remaining $1,523 reduces the capitalised cost. With $0 down that reduction is not made, and the fees, the tax due on them and the first payment — $1,452 in all — are financed into the lease over 36 months with rent charge on them, which is why the payment rises by $92.
